Ivonne Norman

Ivonne Norman joined the Sabin Center in January 2025 as the Legal Network Manager of the Renewable Energy Legal Defense Initiative (RELDI). Ivonne’s work focuses on advancing wind and solar projects across the nation by facilitating legal representation to landowners, community groups and public interest organizations who support clean energy development.

Prior to joining the Sabin Center, Ivonne was an Associate at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University where she assisted in lecturing on environmental law and policy. Ivonne was an Adjunct Professor at St. John’s University School of Law where she co-lectured the inaugural Disaster Law Seminar during the Spring 2025 Pre-Session. Ivonne has also spoken publicly on events addressing the professional duty of attorneys on action in climate, the transformational effect of constitutional environmental rights, pathways to environmental careers, and the need to increase diversity in the environmental bar. Ivonne’s recent articles include: "Extreme Heat Meets Environmental Injustice: Policy Solutions to Help Disadvantaged Communities Battle the Urban Heat Island Effect" and “The CLCPA as a Catalyst for Prioritizing the Welfare of Disadvantaged Communities in New York’s Clean Energy Transition.”

As a bilingual (Spanish / English) attorney, Ivonne has dedicated her career to the advancement of marginalized communities, including by serving on boards of non-profit organizations including WHIN Music Community Charter School and Orchestrating Dreams. Ivonne received her J.D. from New York Law School and was in private practice for 14 years. She is an active member of the Environmental & Energy Law Section at New York State Bar Association and the Environmental Law Committee at the New York City Bar Association.
