On February 6, 2025, following a two-week pause by the Trump administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) resumed publication but did not include information on the ongoing bird flu or the new monkeypox strain. Two bird flu studies on the possible transmission of the disease to humans had been slated for publication but have not yet appeared.
Public health experts have expressed concern over the unpublished studies. The executive director of the American Public Health Association, Dr. Georges Benjamin, said that “researchers, local health officials, and others need [the information] ‘to make data-driven decisions.’” A CDC official stated that the pending articles are “still in the pipeline” but gave no information on when they might be published.
