At the 2024 vice presidential debate in October, Vice President-elect JD Vance, at the time a Senator for Ohio, referred to climate science and climate change as “weird science.” In an answer to a question addressing climate change, Senator Vance stated: “Let’s just say that’s true, just for the sake of argument, so we’re not arguing about weird science. Let’s just say that’s true.” The statement expressed Vance’s skepticism of the scientific consensus behind climate change. In response, “[m]oderator Norah O’Donnell fact-checked Vance’s response, saying, ‘The overwhelming consensus among scientists is that the Earth’s climate is warming at an unprecedented rate.’”
