On October 26, 2020, Grist and InvestigateWest reported that political appointees at the Department of Energy (DOE) had blocked the release of at least twenty-four studies commissioned the department's Solar Energy Technologies Office. The blocked studies include two conducted by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory on grid integration of solar power, which had been under review by DOE's Deputy Assistant Secretary David Solar for seventeen months.
