As of January 16, 2018, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) had yet to release its annual disaster-cost estimate for 2018. Annual estimates, showing the total cost of weather and climate-related disasters during the past year, have been produced since 1980 and are usually released in early January. For example, the 2017 estimate was released on January 8, 2018. However, according to media reports, release of the 2018 estimate has been delayed due to the partial government shutdown.
