President Trump Issues Cost-of-Living Memorandum with Climate Implications

On January 20, 2025, President Trump issued a memorandum entitled “Delivering Emergency Price Relief for American Families and Defeating the Cost-Of-Living Crisis.” While not, on its face, directly related to climate regulation, the Order has implications on climate action. Among many other actions, this Executive Order directs all relevant agencies to “eliminate counterproductive requirements that raise the costs of home appliances” and “eliminate harmful, coercive ‘climate’ policies that increase the costs of food and fuel.”
