On January 20, 2021, President Biden signed an Executive Order on Protecting Public Health and the Environment and Restoring Science to Tackle the Climate Crisis. Among other things, this executive order revokes an earlier executive order issued by the previous president on "Implementing an America-First Offshore Energy Strategy" that included several directives to promote offshore drilling, and reinstates protections withdrawing certain offshore areas in the Arctic Waters and the Bering Sea from oil and gas drilling.
