On January 6, 2017, the National Park Service published a "Cultural Resources Climate Change Strategy" outlining measures to protect cultural resources from the impacts of climate change. The European Association of Archaeologists invited the lead author of the strategy, Dr. Marcy Rockman, to present on the work at a conference in the Netherlands. Dr. Rockman's supervisor approved the trip. However, after her supervisor resigned, Dr. Rockman was told she would have to re-apply for approval. Her application was denied.
