On January 24, 2017, the Badlands national park deleted four tweets relating to climate change from its account. Each tweet contained basic scientific facts about climate change. For example, one referred to the growing concentration of carbon dioxide in the earth’s atmosphere, while another noted the amount of carbon dioxide released from burning fossil fuels.
A spokesperson for the National Park Service indicated that the tweets were posted by “a former employee who was not currently authorized to use the [Badlands national] park’s account.” The official further noted that “park was not told to remove the tweets but chose to do so when they realized their account had been compromised.”
