On July 19, 2022, the Department of Health & Human Services' Administration for Children and Families published an information memorandum pertaining to the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The memorandum explains how LIHEAP grant recipients can respond to worsening extreme heat, including by preventing electricity shut offs, distributing air conditioning units, and establishing cooling centers.
