GA Rep. Misrepresented Science on Efficacy of COVID Vaccines and Mask Wearing

On August 9, 2021 Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene falsely tweeted that “vaccines are failing & do not reduce the spread of the virus & neither do masks.” The tweet was flagged as containing misleading information and blocked from sharing. Representative Greene’s twitter account was also locked for seven days “due to repeated violations” of the platform's COVID-19 misinformation policy, according to a Twitter spokesperson. Representative Greene decried her ban from Twitter in a statement published to Telegram, saying “Twitter won’t allow any real discussion of the truth from an elected Congresswoman.” Public health experts have, however, rejected the claims in Representative Greene’s tweet as false. Though some vaccinated people are able to contract the coronavirus, vaccines have been shown to greatly reduce one’s risk of severe symptoms, hospitalization, and death.
