On August 13, 2020, the EPA finalized amendments to the new source performance standards (NSPS) for volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from the oil and natural gas sector. The revised standards apply to processing and production facilities. Among other things, EPA has weakened the requirements for leak detection and repair, which it admits will lead to higher emissions. EPA has separately repealed regulations on methane emissions from the oil and gas sector. EPA claims that VOC standards adequately control methane emissions, since the two pollutants are typically released together. Read more on our blog >>>
