DOE Proposes Repealing Light Bulb Efficiency Regulation for "A-Lamps"

DOE proposed determining that light bulb energy efficiency standards do not need to be tightened in 2020.

On September 5, 2019, DOE proposed preventing energy efficiency standards from becoming more stringent as of January 1, 2020. The agency reasoned that higher standards would not be economical. This proposal in combination with the recently finalized repeal of standards for other classes of light bulbs would gut 2020 energy efficiency standards that were developed to comply with a 2007 bipartisan bill signed into law by President George W. Bush.
