On August 23, 2022, the DOE proposed amended energy conservation standards for consumer clothes dryers, and also announced a public meeting to receive comment on these proposed standards and associated analyses and results.
The DOE estimates that the cumulative net present value of total consumer benefits of the proposed standards for consumer clothes dryers ranges from $9.07 billion (at a 7-percent discount rate) to $20.8 billion (at a 3-percent discount rate), over a 30-year period.
In addition, the proposed standards for consumer clothes dryers are projected to yield significant environmental benefits over the same 30-year period. The DOE estimates that the proposed standards would result in cumulative emission reductions of 116 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, 42.6 thousand tons of sulfur dioxide, 181 thousand tons of nitrogen oxides, 883 thousand tons of methane, 1.09 thousand tons of nitrous oxide, and 0.26 tons of mercury.
The DOE will hold a public meeting via webinar on September 13, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Webinar registration information, participant instructions and information about the capabilities available to webinar participants are available here.
The DOE will accept comments, data, and information regarding this proposal until October 24, 2022.
