On May 2, 2025, the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released the Trump administration's proposed budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2026. Under the budget proposal, funding for the Department of Energy (DOE) would be cut by $20.29 billion compared to FY2025 funding. In particular, the proposal would cut the DOE Office of Science’s budget by $1.15 billion. The request states: “The Budget reduces funding for climate change and Green New Scam research.”
According to The Hill, the proposed budget would also “‘wind down’ the department’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations, which was [created by] the Biden-era Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to bolster emerging energy technologies including hydrogen power, carbon capture, advanced nuclear reactors, and batteries.”
