On February 19, 2021, the Department of Energy (DOE) sent the Office of Management and Budget a memorandum with a list of rules under review pursuant to President Biden's Executive Order on Protecting Public Health and the Environment and Restoring Science to Tackle the Climate Crisis. The executive order directs agencies to consider suspending, revising, or rescinding certain rules issued by the previous administration. The DOE's memorandum lists thirteen rules that the previous administration issued to weaken energy efficiency standards, including rules establishing new appliances classes and amending the processes for establishing energy efficiency standards.
