House Bill 5063, introduced in January 2023 by Representative John E. Piscopo (R-District 76), proposes revising the state’s science curriculum to include exposing students to the debate surrounding the human cause* of climate change.
As the National Center for Science Education has reported, Representative Piscopo has introduced a series of similar bills that sought to undermine or eliminate education on climate change in Connecticut and to repeal legislation to curb global warming.
*While the legislation specifically names “anthropomorphic” carbon dioxide levels, it is assumed that the bill’s sponsors meant “anthropogenic” carbon dioxide levels.
Update: House Bill 5063 died when the deadline for bills to be reported out of committee passed in May 2023.
