On February 21, 2019, Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy announced that he was disbanding the Climate Change for Alaska Leadership Team. The team was established in 2017 by then Governor Bill Walker to advise on strategies for addressing climate change. It had examined issues relating to, among other things, carbon pricing, renewable energy, and science education.
A spokesperson for Governor Dunleavy justified his decision to disband the team by saying:
“No Governor should be tied to a previous administration’s work product or political agenda and nobody should be surprised to see Governor Dunleavy make this decision.”
