CDC Directed to Revise Coronavirus Guidelines

On July 8, 2020, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued guidelines on the reopening of schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. The guidelines, which are labelled "for internal use only," state that the full reopening of schools presents the "highest risk" for the spread of COVID-19 and recommended measures to mitigate the risk. After the guidelines became public, President Trump tweeted that he "disagree[s]" with the recommendations, and labelled them "very tough & expensive." Vice President Pence subsequently announced that the CDC would issue new recommendations, saying "[w]e just don't want the guidance to be too tough."
