BLM Greenlights Drilling in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

BLM opened 1.5 million acres of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil and gas drilling.

On August 17, 2020, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) issued the Coastal Plain Oil and Gas Leasing Program Record of Decision, allowing oil and gas drilling in over 1.5 million acres in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The action reverses decades-long protections for the largest national wildlife refuge in the country.
