Thanks to states' decarbonization commitments and the availability of technological alternatives to gas-reliant appliances, the coming decades are likely to see radical reductions in natural gas use in residential and commercial buildings and the adoption of clean alternatives. Navigating this transformation successfully will be a monumental endeavor—one that the federal government can support, but cannot undertake itself. It is a task for the states. While multiple agencies within each state will be involved, state public utility commissions will have a central role to play.

The Institute for Policy Integrity, The State Energy & Environment Impact Center and Columbia Law School's Sabin Center for Climate Change Law will bring together officials from some of the states leading the way in this transition and ask them to share their distinct perspectives and insights about the path forward.

Speakers

Lesley E. Cohen, Nevada Assemblywoman

Dave Danner, Chair of the Washington State Utilities and Transportation Commission

Justin Gundlach, Senior Attorney, Institute for Policy Integrity

John Rhodes, former Chair of New York's Public Service Commission

Rebecca Tepper, Energy & Environment Bureau Chief, Massachusetts Attorney General's Office

Jennifer Danis, Senior Fellow, Sabin Center for Climate Change Law
