President Trump’s budget request for fiscal year 2026 proposes to cut the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA’s) overall budget by 20%. The cuts primarily target the Science Mission Directorate and its research in planetary science, Earth science, astrophysics research, and more. The budget proposes to cut astrophysics research by two thirds, heliophysics research by half, and Earth science research by more than half. The proposal would also pull funding for an anticipated telescope project, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope.
