On May 9, 2024, trustees for the Cy-Fair ISD voted nearly unanimously to remove chapters from science textbooks that address climate change and other scientific topics.
All but one of the 13 trustees for the District (the third-largest school district in Texas) voted to omit a series of science textbook chapters that they considered “controversial.” This included chapters addressing topics such as climate change, vaccinations, and the impact of human activity on the environment, and will impact biology, health, and environmental science classes.
The textbooks had previously been approved by the State Board of Education and reviewed by both state and local textbook review committees.
