On November 12, 2020, during an Fox News interview, Sen Rand Paul called on individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 to, “throw away their masks, go to restaurants, live again, because these people are now immune.” The Senator’s statements were widely criticized by medical professionals, who warned that there is no evidence to suggest that individuals who have had the virus are immune.
Following the criticism, Sen Rand Paul’s spokesperson since said, “the science of natural immunity is the foundation of modern vaccine science, and acknowledging it should not be controversial.”
