The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has announced that it will not host the National Climate Assessments (NCA) on its website. In early July 2025, an agency spokesperson said that “[a]ll preexisting [NCA] reports will be hosted on the NASA website, ensuring continuity of reporting.” On July 14, 2025, the same spokesperson walked back her statement, saying that “NASA has no legal obligations to host globalchange.gov’s data… We never did and will not host the data.”
The assessments are mandated by Congress to help communities understand and prepare for the impacts of climate change. Earlier this year, the Trump administration cancelled a key contract and released the experts working on the sixth assessment, which is due in 2027, effectively eliminating the forthcoming report. The latest announcement indicates that the NCA will not be available through any federal website.
