Montana Representative Introduces Bill to Ban mRNA Vaccines

On February 7, 2025, Montana legislators held a hearing on House Bill 371, which would, if enacted, ban the use of mRNA vaccines on humans. The proposed bill makes several false or misleading claims about the safety of the vaccines, including that they have caused an "enormous" number of deaths and other serious adverse health events, have not been studied enough, and may integrate into the human genome or shed to other people.

According to the Montana state medical officer, Douglas Harrington, “the statement that mRNA vaccines can integrate into the human genome and be passed onto the next generation is false. There’s no evidence for that. Second, mRNA vaccines do not shed.” Harrington also testified that the vaccines have undergone extensive research and are critical to battling infectious diseases.

Update: On February 19, 2025, the bill was defeated in the Montana House.
