On March 25, 2025, FEMA announced that it has stopped implementing the Federal Flood Risk Management Standard pursuant to President Trump's Executive Order 14148 rescinding the standard. The standard is designed to prevent flood damage to buildings such as schools, libraries, fire stations, etc. to address the rising cost of repairing flood damage. It requires that certain construction projects to repair buildings that were damaged in flood zones take steps to rebuild in a way that would prevent future flood damage.
According to the New York Times, FEMA's decision to cease enforcement of the standard was announced internally on February 4, 20205.
