In December, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) removed references to the human causes of climate change from its webpage on climate change. As shown in archived captures of EPA’s website, the page previously emphasized human activity and greenhouse gas emissions as major contributors to climate change. Now, the website cites only natural phenomena, such as the Earth’s orbit or volcanic activity, as causing changes in the climate. EPA also removed scientific data and other information that provides evidence of human-caused climate change.
Climate scientist Daniel Swain from the University of California Agricultural and Natural Resources noted that EPA’s website used to be “a clearinghouse for real-time, updated information that was fairly authoritative and easily visualized, and all of that is now gone.”
