DOE Withdraws Federal Rebates for Reduced Home Emissions

DOE issued guidance that withdraws federally funded household rebates for replacing fossil fuel-powered appliances with electric alternatives, under the Home Owner Managing Energy Savings (HOMES) program, and the High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate (HEEHR) program. The HOMES program had provided up to $8,000 for energy-efficient upgrades such as improved insulation, air sealing, HVAC equipment, water heaters, duct sealing, appliances, and lighting. The HEEHR program had provided up to $14,000 in rebates offered by retailers and contractors at the point of sale. Withdrawal of federal support removes a significant economic incentive for low-emission homes.
