DOE Eliminates Reporting Requirements for Exempt External Power Supplies

DOE revised regulations under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act governing exempt external power supplies sold as service or spare parts, eliminating annual reporting requirements.

DOE issued a final rule revising its energy conservation regulations to remove reporting requirements for external power supplies (EPSs) that are exempt from certain efficiency standards pursuant to the Energy Policy and Conservation Act. The previous standards required manufacturers and importers to submit annual reports on company identity, brand, and unit sales if they sold more than 1,000 exempt EPS units as service or spare parts. The revised rule eliminates these reporting obligations, making it more difficult to track the prevalence of less efficient products and to assess their cumulative energy impacts.
