On July 30, 2025, the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced that it is rescinding its previous designation of 3.5 million acres of the outer continental shelf to be eligible for wind energy leasing.
BOEM takes this action pursuant to Interior's Secretarial Order 3437 and the President's memorandum, Temporary Withdrawal of All Areas on the Outer Continental Shelf From Offshore Wind Leasing and Review of the Federal Government's Leasing and Permitting Practices for Wind Projects.
