On May 12, 2026, the Bureau of Land Management issued a final rule rescinding the Conservation and Landscape Health Rule, which was itself issued as a final rule on May 9, 2024. The original rule had prioritized use of federal lands for conservation, recreation, and renewable energy development. The agency was able to offer two new types of leases to restore degraded ecosystems and offset environmental damage, such as those caused by climate change and associated wildfires and flooding events. The rescission will be effective on June 11, 2026. 91 Fed. Reg. 25787 (May 12, 2026).
