In or around January 2019, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) blocked access to the website of its National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). The NCEIsite includes archived meteorological data, weather model forecast data, and multiple climate data sets. Access to the data has reportedly been temporarily suspended due to the partial government shutdown. Users seeking to access the site are being redirected to a page stating:
“The website you are trying to access is not available at this time due to a lapse in appropriation.
NOAA.gov and specific NOAA websites necessary to protect lives and property are operational and will be maintained during this partial closure of the U.S. Government.
See weather.gov for forecasts and critical weather information.”
Update:
On January 28, 2019, NOAA restored access to its websites, including that of the NCEI. Suspension of the NCEI’s website resulted in a one-month gap in the agency’s publication of updates on its work.
