Join the ABA SEER Climate Change, Sustainable Development, and Ecosystems Committee for this free virtual networking event! Scientists have long warned that deep across-the-board cuts in greenhouse gas emissions will be needed to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. Achieving the necessary cuts will require a fundamental reshaping of the energy economy -- a process known as "deep decarbonization." "Legal Pathways to Deep Decarbonization in the U.S." (Michael B. Gerrard & John C. Dernbach eds. 2019) recommended over 1,000 legal actions to advance deep decarbonization. A pro bono team of lawyers is now working on turning those recommendations into proposed model laws. Join us to hear about their progress so far and opportunities for others to get involved. Also discussed will be the ABA Center for Pro Bono and the ability of the ABA to develop pro bono partners. Two such existing pro bono partners have climate change related initiatives.
