White House and State Department Announce Withdrawals from International Organizations

On January 7, 2026, President Trump and the State Department announced the withdrawal of the United States from 66 international organizations, which the Administration has identified as "wasteful, ineffective, and harmful." These included several climate change oriented organizations, such as the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact; the Commission for Environmental Cooperation; the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change; and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

That same day, President Trump issued a memorandum to the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies notifying them of the withdrawal. 91 Fed. Reg. 2281 (Jan. 16, 2026).
