In a letter dated March 4, 2025, the United States Board Member on the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage announced that they would be stepping down. The same letter indicated that the United States Alternate Board Member was resigning, and that the two are “not to be replaced by a U.S. representative.” The loss and damage fund was agreed to in 2023 as a way for developed countries to provide support for mitigating the effects of sea level rise, desertification, flooding, and additional climate change impacts.
