President Trump's Proposed Budget Defunds the "Green New Scam"

On May 2, 2025, President Trump released his discretionary budget request for fiscal year 2026, which includes eliminating climate-related funding. In his announcement, the White House posted a fact sheet entitled "Ending the Green New Scam." Among other things, the fact sheet highlights the following from President Trump's proposed budget:

  • Cancellation of over $15 billion in funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for "unreliable renewable energy, removing carbon dioxide from the air, and other costly technologies that burden ratepayers and consumers."
  • Elimination of "taxpayer handouts to electric vehicle (EV) and battery makers, and cancels $6 billion in IIJA funds for wasteful and ineffective EV charger programs."
  • Elimination of $100 million in environmental justice programs "that enabled a witch hunt against private industry."
