On July 7, 2025, President Trump issued Executive Order 14315, entitled "Ending Market Distorting Subsidies for Unreliable, Foreign-Controlled Energy Sources." The order claims that wind and solar energy development "displaces affordable, reliable, dispatchable domestic energy sources, compromises our electric grid, and denigrates the beauty of our Nation’s natural landscape" and "threatens national security by making the United States dependent on supply chains controlled by foreign adversaries."
President Trump directs the Treasury Department to immediately implement the budget reconciliation bill, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which repealed certain tax credits for wind and solar energy. He also directs the Interior Department to conduct a review of its regulations and policies to identify any that give preferential treatment to wind and solar, and to eliminate those preferences.
