NHTSA Announces Environmental Review of New Fuel Economy Standards for MY 2022-2025 Vehicles

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that it would prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) to assess the potential environmental impacts of new Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards it is proposing to adopt for model year 2022-2025 passenger cars and light trucks. The NHTSA has initiated a “scoping process,” aimed at identifying significant environmental and other matters to be addressed in the EIS, and is seeking input from federal agencies, state and local governments, Indian tribes, and the public. Comments are requested on “the range of alternatives under consideration, on the impacts to be considered, and on the most important matters for indepth analysis in the EIS.”
