The County of Miami-Dade in Florida settled allegations by the US and Florida that the county violated federal and state water pollution control laws and regulations at its three wastewater treatment works. The injunctive relief required by the settlement includes the repair of treatment plants and sewer systems at an estimated cost of $1.6 billion as well as a civil penalty of $978,000. The consent decree also includes penalties if violations of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit or the Consent Decree occur. The County is also spending at least $2,047,200 for projects to eliminate contaminating septic tanks.
