On April 24, 2025, Interior announced that it has adopted a new commingling policy which "implemented new parameters for Downhole Commingling in the Paleogene (Wilcox) reservoirs, expanding the allowable pressure differential from 200 psi to 1500 psi." Interior claims that commingling will increase the output of offshore oil drilling by approximately 10%. The action is taken in response to President Trump's Executive Order 14154, Unleashing American Energy.
