Gabriel Ajabu Mastaki

Gabriel Ajabu Mastaki is a PhD candidate in legal sciences at UCLouvain and a researcher at the Charles De Visscher Center for International and European Law (CeDIE), within the Rights and Migrations team (EDEM). His research focuses on climate migration and climate justice, analyzing state responsibility for internally displaced persons caused by the effects of climate change. 

With an interdisciplinary academic background, he holds a Master’s degree in Human Rights from UCLouvain and the University of Namur, a Master’s degree in Sustainable Development Law from Université Paris Cité, a Master’s degree in Public International Law from Université Espoir d’Afrique, and a Bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Burundi. This strong foundation enables him to address legal issues related to human rights, environmental governance, and international solidarity mechanisms. 

Beyond his commitment to environmental protection, Gabriel Ajabu Mastaki has a strong interest in climate change mitigation, climate-displaced persons’ protection, sustainable development, and education. As a lecturer at several Congolese universities, he teaches environmental law, public international law, African human rights law, and human rights protection systems, contributing to the training of future generations of lawyers and policymakers. 

Through a rigorous academic approach, he actively participates in the development of legal frameworks aimed at promoting inclusive and equitable climate governance aligned with climate justice principles. His work seeks to shed light on the legal challenges of climate migration and strengthen state responsibility within the framework of international solidarity.
