On February 5, 2026, the Forest Service announced proposed revisions to the regulations governing its predecisional administrative review, or "objection process." The proposed rule would, among other things, shorten comment and objection periods, remove extensions, and require page limits on objections. The proposed rule is intended to advance President Trump's Executive Order 14192, "Unleashing Prosperity Through Deregulation," and promote efficiency in line with recent rescissions and revisions to NEPA regulations. The rule applies to, among other things, energy and special use proposals. 91 Fed. Reg. 5387 (Feb. 6, 2026).
