Federal Highway Administration Repeals GHG Metric for Assessing Highway Performance

Date: May 31st, 2018

Explanation: Regulatory action

Agencies: DOT, FHWA

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) repealed regulations establishing performance standards for state and regional highway planning. The regulations required, among other things, state and regional highway planners receiving federal funding to tally and report anticipated greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles traveling on their roads. Such reporting is no longer required as a result of the repeal.
