EPA Proposes Streamlined Permitting for Incinerators Deemed Necessary for Natural Disaster Prevention and Response

EPA proposed to streamline existing Clean Air Act permitting requirements for Air Curtain Incinerators (ACI) deemed critical for natural-disaster recovery and debris management. These units burn wood waste, yard waste, and clean lumber, primarily used to manage debris from wildfires and other natural disasters. EPA also proposed making permanent a prior provision that allows Commercial and Industrial Solid Waste Incinerators (CISWI) to burn non-hazardous disaster debris without fully complying with CAA requirements.
