EPA announced a proposal to extend the coal combustion residuals (CCR) surface impoundment closure deadline for certain coal-fired facilities. For owners and operators with unlined CCR surface impoundments larger than 40 acres, the proposal defers the closure deadline from October 17, 2028, to October 17, 2031.
