On April 22, 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a final rule establishing Phase 3 greenhouse gas emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles for model years 2027 to 2032. The rule sets more stringent carbon dioxide emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles—such as school buses, delivery trucks, tractor-trailers, and more—than the previous Phase 2 rule, which was issued by EPA in October 2016.
