EPA Issues Rule to Limit Emissions of Hazardous Air Pollutants in Fossil Fuel-Fired EGUs

On May 7, 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a final rule to amend the national emission standards for hazardous air pollutants (NESHAP) for coal- and oil-fired electric utility steam generating units (EGUs). The rule was promulgated in the same rulemaking where EPA reaffirmed that it is necessary to regulate coal- and oil-fired EGUs under section 112 of the Clean Air Act by revoking the 2020 rule.
