On January 5, 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a final rule approving an application from the state of Louisiana to assume primary enforcement responsibility, called "primacy," under the Underground Injection Control Program. Louisiana's primacy applies to Class VI wells within the state. Class VI wells are used to inject and sequester carbon dioxide.
