DOI Reopens Alaskan Refuge for Oil and Gas Development

On October 23, 2025, the Department of the Interior issued an announcement about a new record of decision reopening 1.56 million acres of the Alaskan Coastal Plain to oil and gas leasing—reversing the previous administration’s 2024 plan that restricted development. This action fulfills the direction of previous executive orders, and the One Big Beautiful Act, among other Orders and Acts.
